This Crab Artichoke Dip Appetizer is an all-time best selling appetizer at the restaurant, despite the fact that it is expensive. The combination of ingredients is what drives the price but it is so good restaurant guests buy it frequently. They have asked for this crab recipe many times.
One of the reasons this appetizer sells so well is that I use Dungeness crab. I believe it is one of the absolute best crabs available. You should use the best crab available to you.
Dungeness crab is a species of crab that lives in the water
bottoms from the Aleutian Islands in Alaska to Santa Cruz, California. Most of
the crab available to me comes from areas off the coast of Washington State and
Alaska.
The Dungeness crab takes its name from a tiny town in Washington (Dungeness), which is located 5 miles from Sequim and 15 miles east of Port Angeles on the Straits of Juan de Fuca.
Dungeness crab is high in protein and minerals and very low in fat. The crab meat has a delicate and slightly sweeter flavor than most other crab meat.
