Food Magazines, cookbooks and ecookbooks are a passion of mine. I must confess to buying many food and recipe magazines over the years. Makes sense since I love to cook, entertain and I own a restaurant.
Based on my experiences (considerable), I have compiled a number of food magazines for you to consider. Every magazine on this page is rated 5 Stars by home cooks and I have subscriptions to all of them - but don't tell my husband. :-0
One of my picks is a newer publication.
Everyday Food This magazine will save you a great deal of time in the kitchen! Most of the recipes take a maximum of 30 minutes to prepare. It usually has good photos of the finished dish. Most of the recipes have ingredients that are readily available from your local grocery store. Some of my friends say that the listed "prep times" are very accurate. Nutritional information usually accompanies the recipes. This food magazine "works." I like things that work. If you purchase the magazine, I believe it will become a resource "work horse." A subsciption to this food magazine is also a great gift item! In fact this magazine has become so popular, it has spawned the cooking show on the Food Network by the same name.
I love
Fine Cooking. I have tried a number of their recipes at the restaurant and they "work." I believe this is one of the best cooking magazines for everyone. It is one of my personal favorites.
Cook's Illustrated This magazine is sort of Consumers Reports for cooking. The magazine includes recipes, tips sent in by readers, standard methods for important cooking procedures, reviews of gadgets or food items, and reviews of cookbooks. Some of the recipes are easy, but others do take a number of steps I really enjoy articles written about how certain recipes came to be.
Intermezzo Magazine This magazine also has articles about travel. The photos are beautiful. This is a quality publication.
Eating WellSomewhat like "Prevention Magazine," which I also read, this magazine has timely and informative articles about different foods and their nutritional value. This magazine has many interesting recipes as well as their articles that pertain to eating well. If you want a cooking - nutrition magazine to subscribe to, this may be it.
If you are a highly trained cook or professional or a motivated culinary student, you might be interested in
Art Culinaire. This is a quarterly publication and comes out in hardcover. Even though the magazine is oriented toward the professionals, the recipes are frequently for family size meals. This is a very pricy publication. It is a very good resource but you will not want to splatter food on it! It is really interesting reading.
The Herb Quarterly The joy and benefits of herbs! Recipes are frequently built around herbs. Each issue introduces new herbs and provides tips on hard-to-grow varieties. This magazine is basically herbal wisdom married with good recipes. I like the artwork as well.
Speaking of herbs ...the Tea Experience Digest This quarterly magazine has information about tea on every continent, innovative tea products, and health benefits. It contains beautiful, colorful images on just about every page. It encourages readers to enjoy their tea experience. If you love tea or just want to learn something more about tea, this is definitely the magazine for you.
Yes, I enjoy the FoodNetwork. I started my recommended reads with "Everday Food" and conclude with this newer publication. So far the magazine delivers recipes that are pretty good and easy to prepare with ingredients most home cooks already have in their kitchens. The meals are easy but also interesting. The weekly planner is a great idea for home cooks. The magazine is written in a fun way and is easy to read.
